Esquire magazine, when it debuted in 1933, was a precursor to Playboy in many respects. It featured substantial articles but was primarily purchased for its pin-up content. Unlike photographic nudes, Esquire’s pin-ups consisted of tantalizing glamour girl cartoons, initially created by George Petty. By 1939, these cartoons had evolved into double-page spreads, essentially pioneering the concept of the centerfold. h/t: vintag.es However, a dispute arose between George Petty and the magazine

Thomas Edison once said “Vision without execution is hallucination.” This statement applies not just to invention, but to graphic design. Made using folded steel sheet metal – with the unexpected addition of a wingnut – Smudge Tool feels raw, yet polished. Pair the yellow galvanized accessory with Eyes of My Mind’s custom Modern Spirit incense which interprets the brand’s mindset of ”the only way out is in” via scent for the full experience the collaboration intends to create.

All the hubbub from the holidays dying down as we enter into that long, cold, dark stretch before spring laid out in front of us like a never-ending corridor with no doors or windows. Does anyone else feel like these first 3 months of the year stretch on longer than the entire rest of the 9 months combined? December went by so fast that I don't even know if Bob is my uncle or not.

In 1953, Brooks Walker transformed a Packard Cavalier sedan from his California-based business, Walker Research, into one of the most renowned postwar Packards. Using hydraulic pumps, lines, gears, and the Packard’s left rear tire and continental spare tire, he devised a distinctive system to simplify parking. Unfortunately, his concept didn’t gain traction, leaving Walker’s personal 1953 Packard Cavalier as the sole known example with this patented system. h/t: vintag.es Even

When we design products or websites for people like ourselves, there are many others who are, as a result, left out. From visually impaired users who rely on assistive technology, to people with a temporary injury such as a broken arm, tech users are forever diverse and beautifully unique. The products we design can, and should, reflect the extremely wide range of human experiences and needs.
