In 2012, the elders of the Black Masking community declared that Melancon would then be known as Big Chief Demond Melancon of the Young Seminole Hunters, his very own tribe based in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans where he grew up. . I branched out to show them that beading can be contemporary art, can be fine art.

PHOTO: Nick Lehoux KPMB was shortlisted for the project in 2012 and eventually beat out Kohn Pedersen Fox, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, Safdie Architects and Elkus Manfredi Architects to win the competition the following year. The program, however, needed to account for quiet workspaces in addition to collaboration zones.

Sophia holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the School of Visual Arts and a masters degree in visual arts administration from New York University. Her work has recently been exhibited in Rush Arts Gallery and the Bronx Museum for the Arts, as well as at the 2020 US Open. Art Therapy.

In 2012, the dance troupe Pilobolus teamed up with the photographer Robert Whitman to create a The Pilobolus Vote Project , a get-out-the-vote campaign featuring images of the dancers forming the word “VOTE” with their bodies in famous sites around New York City. “I started Landfill Dogs in 2012 by asking my county shelter if each week I could take the dog who had been there the longest to Landfill Park. First, the exhibition featured six female photographers who all work in different facets of photography including photojournalism, commercial/editorial work, and fine art photography.
